Some say the best coffee comes from Vietnam. Some even say its one of the best in the world. Vietnam is the world’s second largest exporter of coffee behind Brazil and it is a paradise for coffee-loving visitors. And for us in AirAsia, most of us need coffee to start our days!!

So this time, my 1st January trip, I chose Ho Chi Minh city. Not only to explore and experience new things at a new place, I took this opportunity to try their coffee(s). (I’ve actually stopped drinking coffee for a while but I wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity definitely!)

Some basic words that I needed to remember about coffee there;

sữa means sweetened condensed milk
ðá means ice
nóng (pronounce nowm) means hot

And more…
cà phê sữa ðá means sweet strong coffee and condensed milk with ice
cà phê ðá means sweet strong coffee with ice
cà phê sữa nóng means sweet strong coffee and condensed milk served hot

Now we are ready to explore more in Ho Chi Minh city. And the best way to explore HCMC is on motorbike, like the locals. Warning: it doesn’t mean if you can ride a bike in Malaysia, you could survive in HCMC. It is SCARY!

The coffee I tried:

I could say that all of them was really, really good and it is definitely much cheaper than here in Malaysia with that quality. I even bought some home for family and friends.

Helping me to search for good coffee and explore HCMC , was a new friend that I met on Koolred. His name is Ken and he was definitely an excellent Travel Host. He didn’t offer accomodation however he brought me around HCMC on his bike like the locals. And this was definitely a different experience for me. I was lucky to be there right after the new year celebration – there were lights everywhere. He was also very helpful as he explored HCMC and helped me to look for Halal Muslim food!

Some of the beautiful buildings in HCMC.They look different during the day compare to at night.

Some of the other stuffs which attracted my attention:

Some of the Halal food places and cafe (for coffee) that I explored:

And also other places that might be of interest :

With only 2 days to explore, I didn’t manage to go to the ChuChi Tunnels and other areas however going to the Museums made me learn lots of things.

My original plan was to look for the best coffee but now, the best thing from this trip was to explore HCMC on motorbike. With the traffic that is beyond description, you need to go yourself to experience it. For me it was scary and there were moments that I held my breath. I am very lucky that Ken, was really good.

And my trip to Ho Chi Minh city was a great start to a new year, definitely!

Happy New Year to all!!
