Two Wheels or Four Wheels – AirAsia’s got it covered!

This weekend at the Monza Formula One Race in Italy, our partners Lotus Racing were, as usual racing around the track. But on race day they hosted 2 special visitors; Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Sturla Fagerhaug from Team AirAsia – Sepang International Circuit of MotoGP.

Our riders compete in the 125cc Category and both have been performing extremely well over the course of the season.
Fahmi, as he’s more fondly known, has exceeded all expectations by not only becoming the first Malaysian to score a World Championship point in the 125cc Category, but continued to give it his all and has since received a further two Championship points. This is a fantastic achievement for a rider who is new to every circuit, and has the least experience in terms of racing than the majority of riders on the track.
Fahmi’s team mate, Sturla Fagerhaug of Norway has also performed fantastically on the track, and we at AirAsia are proud of both the boys’ performance, and seeing them racing the AirAsia name makes it all the sweeter!

Coming after the San Marino Italian MotoGP, it was just a short journey for the boys to make it to Monza. A first time for both to visit their ‘rivals’ in Four Wheels at a Formula One Paddock, it was a great day out for both the boys.

According to our friends at Lotus Racing the two wheel riders were so excited to be there and meet the team and Tony was happy to share this moment with the boys.

And this isn’t the first time Lotus Racing has hosted our ‘AirAsia Hero’s. Earlier this month, AirAsia sponsored Nabil Jeffri performed his first aero testing for Lotus Racing, becoming the youngest ever test driver in Formula One™ history. One of the first drivers under the AirAsia Asean Driver Development initiative, along with young go karter Daim Hishammuddin, Nabil is currently participating in the Formula BMW Championship, Nabil is Malaysia’s rising star in car racing.

On the day of the aero test, Fairuz Fauzy and Heikki Kovalainen were both on hand to lend their advice to the young Malaysian; what more can you ask for?!

Formula One and MotoGP follow some of the same circuits on their way around their respective World Championships. And we at AirAsia are proud to be able to send you to the hottest races around for both Two and Four Wheels…

Our brand new Lotus Racing A320 Aircraft will be flying some of you lucky people to and from Singapore as everyone heads to the island to catch the action. Have you seen our new baby?

Talking of Singapore, it may well be on the MotoGP Calendar in 2011! Plans for a race to be held in the Asian country were proposed in November 2008 following the success of the inaugural Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix night race, to possibly bring MotoGP to a new permanent circuit in Changi – how exciting?!

Our two wheel riders will be racing in Spain this coming weekend at the Aragon GP followed by the rescheduled Japan GP on 1-3 October. The original race was scheduled for back in April but due to the volcanic ash, it had to be postponed. Following the Japan GP comes 2 back to back GP’s with the ‘home race’ for Fahmi at the Malaysia GP on 8-10 October, followed by the Australian MotoGP in Phillip Island on 15-17 October.

The Malaysia race, held at Sepang International Circuit will be a fantastic weekend. Will Fahmi win a Championship Point on his home soil? Either way, I know that Malaysia will be out to support our home grown hero, just 1 year after his first debut as the wild card entry in AirAsia Team Malaysia at the 2009 MotoGP.

If you want to stand a chance to win tickets to the race then ‘watch this space’ as we’ll be running a contest to send lucky winners to the track to see the bikes up close as they race.
Alternatively you can buy tickets directly from Sepang;
