I have wished for many years to visit Kota Kinabalu,Sabah. Many of my friends and family members have been there and the stories they bring back with them was awesome. On 15th February 11,I visited the AirAsia website and to my surprise AirAsia was giving away cheap flight to Sabah & Sarawak for traveling period in March.Immediately the destination that triggered me was KK and when I checked the destination it was only RM36 both ways including taxes.I consulted my wife, friends and family members and all of them agreed to go to KK on 3rd March and return on 5th March.I managed to book for 7 of us for the promotional price (RM36 per person).
We departed KL by 8.00 AM flight,no delay and reached KK at 10.30 AM.For my delight the flight landing was really an exciting one because the view of the beach and the islands in KK was really fantastic and looked as though welcoming us with open arms. The terminal 2 KK airport looked a little bit worn out but I was told that terminal 1 KK airport opening is just around the corner. The immigration and baggage procession was really smooth and just on time as our Likas Condotel airport transfer van was just arriving at the main entrance.
Reached the condotel, checked in and upgraded our room to 3 bedroom premier suite. It was only 390++ and the suite looked really luxurious for its price.Right after check in,the next tought that came to my mind was food.Where can I have a nice Indian food?Is there any in KK?Yes there is.Sanba curry house is a famous curry house that is situated in Alam Mesra. The front office staff called for us a taxi that all 7 of us able to get there together. All of us was greeted cheerfully by its owner (Uncle Bala) and we ordered banana leaf rice with some local dishes. The food was really delicious and one should not miss Mango Lassi drink at the restaurant.
We walked at least for 10 minutes to 1Borneo shopping mall to take the free shuttle bus to the KK city.Like other travelers,I was doing some homework on places of interest in KK just 3 weeks before our trip. The place that we went first was the Filipino market. It is quite famous in KK.We bought some jewelry made of pearl, stones and bought some souvenirs together with printed t-shirts.We plan to call it for the day because almost all of us were tired because we had to wake up at 5.30 AM to get to the LCCT airport.
Day 2 was an exciting day because it is the island day.The Tunku Abdul Rahman Park consist of 5 islands. The famous three are Manukan,Mamutik & Sapi.We had a simple breakfast in our condo and headed to the Jesselton Point (jetty) with a taxi.
Reaching there I went to counter number 8 (Apparo Holiday) and chartered a boat for 7 of us.I paid RM350 for the chartered boat for 7 of us.This boat will only ferry 7 of us and we will have unlimited time in all these 3 islands. The first island that we went was Sapi Island. The journey to this island from Jesselton Point was only 15 minutes. On reaching the island I was very excited because first time in my life I am looking at a clear water beach.Just cant wait to get my legs into the waters. The scenery was so beautiful with no words could describe it.The cleanliness and beauty of the island was really taken care of.We paid RM3 per person for the entry fee that we could use the ticket for other 2 islands. We were just lazying on the bench for a while looking at the beautiful and awesome God’s creation that was lying in front and around us.Some local guys came and promoted their water sport activities and I took the parasailing activity.I paid for 2 person that means me and my wife will be para-sailing together. We were taken by a boat to the middle of the sea that is another 10 minutes boat ride. The take off and landing was from the boat itself. It was really fun doing the activity and the scenery from above was even more breathtaking. It loked so peacefull for a moment.Came back to the island and I could see some of my family members already in the clear water looking at the fishes that were swimming around them. The experience was really beautiful. The next island was Mamutik and this island was similar to Sapi. The last Island we spent our day was Manukan. It was the largest and it has a resort in it.The water was not so clear as it was in Sapi.We had our lunch there and spent most of our time in the water. It was already 4.00PM and I called the travel agent to send the boat to fetch us back to the Jesselton point.Once reached there, the condotel shuttle van was already waiting for us at the point.Reached our condo and cleaned ourself as fast as possible to continue our part 2 of day 2.
Next was city tour that I arranged earlier for RM200 for all 7 of us.We were greeted by the driver at the condo at 5.30PM.He was a nice and friendly person. We asked him to drive us to Sanba Curry House for tea time. After that we were given a tour around the city.We stopped for a while at a shopping complex and night market. We continued our journey covering the city center,Sutera Harbour and Tanjung Aru.It was already midnight when we reached the condo but the fun we had was really awesome.
Last day was the day that we will fly out of KK but our flight was only at 6.30PM.I decided to make use the time we have for a trip to the Kinabalu Park and Poring hot spring. We packed our bags and checked out the condo as our van was waiting for us.We paid only RM450 for all of us for the trip.We loaded our bags and started our journey around 8am.The journey to Kinabalu Park will take around 2 hours. On the way we stopped at Pekan Nabalu where we bought some souvenirs.Everything was cheap there. On the way we had a glimpse of Gunung Kinabalu which was partially covered by the clouds. It was so majestic and beautiful. At times goes by it was not visible anymore. We spent some time at the Kinabalu Park and continued our trip to Poring hot spring that took another 1 hour. The hot spring looked clean and well taken care.We could see many people soaking their legs in the pool.We walked to the canopy walk where it was quite challenging but it was fun though. After that we rushed back to the airport where we reached the airport at roughly 5pm.We checked in using the kiosk check in and it was really easy and saved our queue time.I suggest everyone should try this. The departure from KK airport was on time.In our flight back to LCCT airport Kuala Lumpur,we were talking about the exciting moments we had and all of us vowed to come back next year because there was a lot more places we didn’t have time to cover. It was a great and exciting holiday.I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who have not been to Sabah. The whole experience was awesome and fun.
