Here, it's absolutely acceptable to ask someone their age - in UK it is not so polite to ask a lady her age - but it didn't bother me too much; I'm not quite old enough to feel the need to hide my age. Well, I thought this until a lot of people started thinking I was 30, married with children...ahem...that's adding 8 years onto my life and I’m definitely not in a rush to start a family just yet.
Is it because I’m tall? Or maybe because my IC number is my passport number which starts with ‘7050…’ and could be mistaken for my date of birth?
I must say I am amazed at how YOUNG everyone looks here. There’s everyone thinking I’m 30 when I’m actually 22 and I think everyone is in their early 20’s when in fact they are older than they look.
My attempts at picking up some Bahasa Malaysia have gone down pretty well I think. Certainly a chuckle here and there in the staff lounge when I ask for “Nasi sikit, ayam, kuah”. And then I throw around a “boleh” here and there and everyone laughs…I hope in a nice way?!
Quite often on my wonderings around the airport I pass by locals and I hear them saying; "Hello miss, welcome to Malaysia! You are very long!" or "Hello, you are very high!" (Instead of very tall) - Always makes me smile!
All in all I feel very much a part of Malaysia and the AirAsia family and thoroughly enjoy working in this fun and friendly environment which is maybe even a little crazy – but it works for me!

The best part - the trainees thought I am not a Malaysian!
I will bring you Thai noodle and Tammarine when I visit LCCT next time....
Enjoy
